What's Happening...

Mayor Tom Laputka of Orange City visiting our Coleman Head Start site to celebrate the garden that the children created.
"The Learning Experience Behind Gardening"
At Coleman Head Start we did much more than just planting seeds, flowers or vegetables... We were actually planting a lifetime lesson for our children; it was a hands-on activity where our children learned about:
- Science & Nature: we talked about the cycle of a plant and what it needs to grow.
- Art: we talked about colors, drew pictures of flowers and vegetables, and drew the sequence of how plants grow (from seeds to plants).
- Math: we talked about measuring the space, we compared the size of the seeds and the plants, and we counted the plants and the seeds.
- Reading & Language: we read some books about gardening, together we chose what to plant, looked for recipes to use later on, and talked about the ingredients to be used.
Gardening gives children a chance to learn important life skills while enjoying the time spent together...
Children + Dirt + Water = BIG FUN!
Think About it
You cannot hope to build a better world without improving the individuals. To that end each of us must work for his own improvement, and at the same time share a general responsibility for all humanity, our particular duty being to aid those to whom we think we can be most useful.
