What is the Visitation Center?
The Family Visitation Center of Hernando County is a community project made possible through the efforts of the many wonderful organizations, individuals and businesses who have so unselfishly given their time and support to maintain the program’s continued commitment to providing a valuable service to the community. The Family Visitation Center of Hernando County provides a safe, nurturing, home like environment in which children may visit with their parents, siblings and other family members when contact has been restricted by Court action. The 1,800 plus square foot facility is designed with the look and feel of a regular home. The Center includes an eat-in kitchen for sharing meals, a backyard with a playground for sliding and swinging, and visitation rooms for playing games and having heart-to-heart conversations. All the rooms in the Center are designed to serve as a place to foster stable loving relationships between parents and children in a protected, neutral environment.
Supervised Vistitation

A supervised visitation enables an ongoing relationship between a non-custodial parent and their children, in a safe, structured environment. All visits are impartially monitored by a neutral third party who will intervene if a parent engages in inappropriate behavior. Additionally, the center staff assist parents with selecting activities to engage in with their child, share suggestions relative to parenting techniques and provide written documentation to the Court regarding supervised contact.
Monitored Exchange
The Monitored Exchange program provides a safe, stress free way for parents to exchange children for day-time, evening, overnight, and weekend visitation. The exchange takes place at the Center through a neutral third party,
thereby preventing children from being victimized by exposure to inappropriate behavior. The process eliminates contact between parents where there is a history of domestic violence or antagonistic behavior. The center also monitors parents who have issues of substance abuse to assure their sobriety before exercising visitation privileges. This process provides for ongoing positive interaction between parent and child while safeguarding the physical and emotional well being of all family members. Written documentation regarding exchanges is provided to the Courts when required.

We accept referrals from Family Law Court for separation, divorce, domestic violence and child custody issues. Referrals are also accepted from Department of Children and Families and community based providers via Dependency Court for cases involving child abuse, neglect, substance abuse, mental illness and sexual abuse.
